A new programme to support parents and carers with their babies and toddlers, launches in over 300 centres across the UK.

A new programme to support parents and carers with their babies and toddlers, launches in over 300 centres across the UK.

In response to more than 400 Sure Start centres closing in the last two years, new hands-on creative workshops have been developed by The Creation Station to enable
parents to share, develop and discover with their child. The new programme
called ‘Shimmy Shapes’ have been developed in line with the Early Years
Foundation Stage, to nurture parenting skills and to develop essential bonds.
The fun and practical weekly classes provide a range of art and craft activities
and include top tips to continue the play ideas at home.

Sarah Cressall founder and Managing Director of The Creation Station stated “It’s a really tough job being a parent and it’s really important that as a society we value this
critical role. As parents, we are often short of time, resources, ideas, energy or confidence to play and interact with our children in a meaningful way.
That’s why we’ve developed our classes to support parents and carers, not only to learn new skills to play with their child, but so that they can also have fun
and make new friends too.”

The weekly classes are based on nurturing a child’s own natural curiosity to develop a love of learning through shared hands-on creative fun. The ‘Baby Discover’ classes have
been developed for babies aged 4 months to 1 years of age and the ‘Little Explorer’ classes
are for toddlers aged 1 year to 5 years of age. Activities include exploring
wet and dry clay and creating their own clay creatures, matching shapes and
colours and creating dancing puppets.

Laura Dark from Bath said ”We’ve been going to The Creation Station  for several months now. My little one was 6 months when we first started going, she’s now 14 months and we still have just as much fun now as we did when we first started going. The
classes are fantastic with different activities each week, painting, clay hand and foot prints, canvas foot prints etc. Lots of ideas and keep sakes to take home too”.

About Us.

First and foremost, we are PASSIONATE about nurturing creativity!

What does that mean for us? Well, we love having fun with different materials – paint, glue and, of course, a bit of glitter – but we also believe that being creative is about experimenting, playing and just seeing what happens.

Giving expression to your own imagination in a group setting provides lots of benefits. It helps young children learn to make choices, share, listen, observe, pretend, problem solve, as well as play and interact with others.

The Creation Station isn’t simply about learning how to paint, model or collage along the lines of “Here’s one we did earlier”. It’s all about having a go, being inspired by something quite simple and encouraging each person to develop their own ideas. It’s amazing seeing that happen and it also gives you a huge boost of confidence when your ideas are taken seriously – no matter how old you are!
